PLA is a polymer made from renewable resources – in this instance, cornstarch. How Long Do ETSUS Compostable Bags Take To Break Down?
While traditional plastic will eventually break down, this can take centuries or even thousands of years. However, compostable bags such as ours, shorten the process to months or even less! Essentially, plastic is broken down by microbes or fungi in the environment over time.
Compostable plastic is best broken down in an industrial composter as that’s what it’s designed for rather than landfill. These composters are set up perfectly with the right temperature, moisture levels, air and other important factors for decomposition.
These facilities take larger amounts of materials at a time and can take weeks to months for the materials to decompose, dependent on the waste that requires decomposition. Typically, in the right environment, a compostable bag will take around 90 days to decompose in a compost bin.

We Put Our ETSUS Compostable Trash Bags To The Test
Our ETSUS compostable trash bags are 100% compostable when disposed of in an industrial composting facility, but how did they stack up in my uncontrolled, home worm farm? For 45 days, I observed how a single trash bag broke down among the other natural materials.
By day 27, I observed the bag beginning to break down in the natural environment of worms, soil, food scraps and other microorganisms in my backyard (uncontrolled environment). By day 45, I was able to hold small parts of the bag in my hand – it had degraded into pieces smaller than my thumb!
This home experiment filled me with confidence to promote these bags as a great alternative to standard plastic trash bags and to say ETSUS Compostable Bags Biodegrade. Of course, for best results I recommend disposing of your compostable trash bags in an industrial facility, however, you can be assured that the bag will also decompose in your own home compost – just at a slower rate.
What Certifications And Standards Do ETSUS Compostable Trash Bags Hold?
